Devonshire Church Celebrates its 30th Anniversary
Members of the Devonshire Seventh-day Adventist Church joyfully celebrated and gave glory and honor to God for the great things He has done for the church throughout the past 30 years. On the evening of November 21, 2007, the program began with Founder’s Night, acknowledging the church’s founding members with a plaque. The plaque will hang in the church in honor of their service. The speaker for the evening, Sidney Gibbons, executive officer for the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality (CURE), presented a message entitled, "We’ve Come This Far By Faith."
The next evening, Thanksgiving night, we celebrated with an agape feast as members gave thanks and awesome testimonies of praise. The guest speaker, Pastor Eugene Virgil, entitled his message, "If You Continue."
On Friday, November 23, we showed appreciation to our pastors, presenting them with gifts and unveiling their portraits that will hang in the church. Pastor David Rogers’ sermon for the evening was entitled "Show Me Thy Glory."
On Sabbath, designated as Community Guest Day, we were honored by the attendance of many guests, including high-ranking government officials. We celebrated with high praise and worship that included a community Pathfinder march, acknowledgement of the original church property owners, and a presentation of the church’s portrait. The guest speaker, Pastor Colin Dunbar, entitled his message "The Seal of God Today." After the fellowship meal, a musical concert was presented by the DCL praise team and choir, along with many other musical renditions. After sunset, copies of the church portrait were made available, with the proceeds going toward the building fund.
The celebration culminated on Sunday with a banquet held at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club. This was a night of thanksgiving and praise to the glory of God through prayer and the sharing of food, laughter, and fellowship.
Those attending participated in a game devised to how well they know their pastors. Those who participated in any or all of these special times at DCL served with love and gratitude. We’re thankful for the opportunities and joys throughout the years to honor and give thanks to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57).
